In its season opener, the Pepperdine swimming and diving team logged nine top-five finishes at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference Relays including a first-place performance from divers Tiffany Martz and Leslie Wade.
Martz (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS) teamed with Wade (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) in the diving relays for both the one and three meter springboard events. The Waves took first in the one meter with 486.15 points. In the three meter competition, the duo finished in second place with 414.15 points.
The other diving tandem of Klaire Korver (Redwood City, Calif./Pinewood School) and Kristin Scribner (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) also had a solid start the 2010-11 campaign, placing third in both diving events.
Shannon Adkins (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) led the 300-yard backstroke relay team in the first leg, followed by Sarah Burris (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS) and newcomer Stephanie Ertl (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) The trio placed fifth overall behind of time of 3:08.40. Burris clocked a blazing 56.24 split, to set a new 100 backstroke career-best.
The relay team comprising of Kayleen Hicks (Chico, Calif./Chico HS), Ertl, Burris and anchor Madison Krall (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Centennial HS) placed second in the 500 freestyle medley relay, and add 17 points to the Pepperdine team score.
Hicks, Ertl and Burris teamed up one again, this time led off by Adkins to place third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.35.
The Waves took another third-place finish in the 400 IM relay. Adkins, Ertl, and Hicks each swam their 100 before Krall finished her leg as the timer read 4:15.77.
As a team, Pepperdine finished sixth with 196.0 points.
Brooke Fugate (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS), Krall and Gina Vrabink (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) continue this weekend’s action tomorrow in Riverside, for the PCSC Pentathlon.
