LSU’s Trepp Wins National Swimmer-of-the-Week

LSU’s Trepp Wins National Swimmer-of-the-Week Four school records and four NCAA “B” cuts by Jane Trepp (Louisiana State University) and five total NCAA “B” cuts by Michael Flach (University of South Carolina) have earned the pair the Counsilman-Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors.  Also winning this week’s award were Maura Donahue (University of Indianapolis), Ivan Nechunaev (Grand Canyon University), Tara Levens (University of Chicago), and Wyatt Ubellacker (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).  The six recipients were selected by coaches and media relations personnel for their performances November 16-November 22.   

Division I

Jane Trepp
Louisiana State University
Senior- Tallinn, Estonia
At the Phil Hansel Cougar Classic Invitational, Trepp set four school records and recorded four NCAA “B” cuts.  She posted the nation’s fastest times in the 50 free (22.16, school record), and the 100 fly (52.11, school record).  She also swam the 100 free (48.85, school record), and the 100 breast (1:00.70, school record).  In addition, she was a member of four relays that all achieved NCAA “B” cuts.

Michael Flach
University of South Carolina
Sophomore- Annandale, Va.
Flach swam to three individual and two relay NCAA “B” cuts at the Nike Cup Invitational.  He won the 500 free (4:21.68, NCAA “B” cut), the 200 free (1:35.53, NCAA “B” cut), and got second in the 200 fly (1:45.36, NCAA “B” cut).  He also swam on the 800 free relay (6:34.09, 1:36.33- split) and 400 free relay (3:00.69, 45.00-split) that both achieved NCAA “B” cuts.

Division II

Maura Donahue
University of Indianapolis
Sophomore- Milan, Mich.
Donahue won five events and earned four NCAA “A” cuts at the Woehnker Invitational.  She led off the 800 free relay (7:32.37, NCAA “A” cut), while splitting another personal “A” cut of 1:50.53.  She also won the 100 free (50.47, NCAA “A” cut), the 200 free (1:53.74), and the 500 free (4:56.31, NCAA “A” cut).  She was also a member of the winning 200 free relay (1:34.47, NCAA “A” cut).

Ivan Nechunaev
Grand Canyon University
Junior- Tomsk, Russia
Nechunaev won four individual events and achieved three NCAA “B” cuts at the Trinity Invitational.  He swam the 100 fly (50.99, NCAA “B” cut), the 200 fly (1:53.40, NCAA “B” cut), the 500 free (4:38.44), and the 200 free (1:44.61).

Division III

Tara Levens
University of Chicago
Junior- Palo Alto, Calif.
Levens won six events at the Phoenix Fall Classic hosted by the University of Chicago.  She led off the 400 medley relay (57.10- back split).  The time was an NCAA “A” cut and a new school and pool record.  She also finished second in the 200 back (2:07.26, NCAA “B” cut), first in the 100 fly (58.61), and first in the 50 free (24.81).

Wyatt Ubellacker
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Sophomore- Georgetown, KY
Ubellacker won the 50 free (20.97, NCAA “B” cut), and the 100 fly (49.67, NCAA “B” cut).  He was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:35.62, 21.88- fly split) as well as the winning 400 free relay (3:11.50, 46.90- split).  The swims came in victories over Bowdoin (217-77) and Babson (226-60).
