Washington & Jefferson, Westminster Split

Junior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) roared back on the final leg of the 400 freestyle relay to help Washington & Jefferson College earn a Presidents’ Athletic Conference swimming and diving split with Westminster College on Wednesday evening at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.  

The W&J women remained unbeaten (5-0, 2-0 PAC) with a 157-142 victory; however, the Titans’ men handed W&J its first loss (3-1, 0-1 PAC) with a 163-131 triumph.
 
Corcoran helped seal the women’s victory on the 400 freestyle relay which set a pool record with a time of 3:43.13.  Junior Ellie Tecza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) and freshmen Jenna Supp (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Zoe Levenson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) teamed with Corcoran for the clinching win.
 
Corcoran also won the 50 (24.62) and 100 (54.22) freestyles, while Levenson claimed the 100 butterfly (1:01.54). 
 
Junior Bethany Haver (Akron, Ohio/Harvey S. Firestone) won both diving events, earning 212.90 points at one meter and 209.70 points at three meters. 
 
The W&J men were also led by a diver, junior Justin Weifenbach (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour).  He picked up 18 team points after winning the 1-meter (217.20) and 3-meter (227.40) events. 
 
Junior Keyton Kalakewich (Edwards, Colo./Charleroi) also was a part of two victories, claiming the 50 freestyle (22.03) and leading the 400 freestyle relay (3:18.77) to a win in the final race.  Senior Christian Larson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and juniors Jonathan Weeks (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) and Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) swam the other three legs on the winning relay. 
 
Weeks also touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:01.85), while Rish won the 100 backstroke (55.16). 
 
Sophomore Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) was victorious in the 200 butterfly (2:13.76) and freshman Isabella Diaz (Walnut Creek, Calif./La Lomas) garnered first place in the 1000 freestyle (11:09.46).
 
Both W&J squads will be back in action Saturday when traveling to Reading, Pa., for a double-dual meet with Albright and Messiah.
