York Quad Meet Action

First-years Cameron Hedquist (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) each had an individual victory as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team competed at York (Pa.) College's quad meet with Dickinson College and Susquehanna University Saturday afternoon.

Hedquist kept his streak alive in the 200 freestyle event, remaining undefeated in the event as he reached the wall first in 1:48.39.  Hedquist was solid in the 100 freestyle as well with a third-place finish in 49.97.

Hedquist joined forces with senior captains Nico Pinto (Lima, Peru/FDR-Winston Churchill American School) and Jackson Webb (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) as well as sophomore Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) to lead the Seahawks to a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:44.43).

Petersen notched a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle event with a time of 10:28.08, just edging his teammate as DeBoissiere came in second place in 10:28.77.  Petersen picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:08.79) as well as a fifth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.59).

Webb recorded a third-place finish in the 200 fly in 2:04.74 while DeBoissiere came in fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.13.

St. Mary's will be idle until December 4-5 when the Seahawks will compete at the annual Franklin & Marshall College Invitational in Lancaster, Pa.





Sophomore Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) dominated the York (Pa.) College quad meet Saturday afternoon, setting three pool records and leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team to victories over Dickinson College, Susquehanna University and host York.

Heyde commenced the meet with her first pool record in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall first in 2:12.23.  She continued with another pool record in the 200 butterfly, claiming the event in 2:09.19.  Heyde wrapped up competition with her final pool record of the day in the 500 freestyle, notching a winning time of 5:18.17.

First-year Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) recorded a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:16.84 before posting a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.66.  O'Connor helped the Seahawks record a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay (4:22.63).

First-year Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) picked up the Seahawks fifth gold medal of the afternoon, capturing the 200 breaststroke event in 2:32.76.  D'Ambrosio took second in the 50 freestyle in 26.07 as well as coming in third in the 100 freestyle in 57.59.

Senior captain Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) put forth a solid effort for St. Mary's with a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:20.80) and the 200 breaststroke (2:38.62).

The Seahawks are off until December 4-5 when St. Mary's travels to Lancaster, Pa. for the annual Franklin & Marshall College Invitational.
