Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT) won the 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team to lead WPI past Babson 157-132 in Men's Swimming and Diving on Saturday afternoon at Clark. With the win WPI moves to 2-0, while Babson drops to 2-1 on the season.
Spazzarini registered a time of 10:23.97 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 2:07.59 in the 200-yard backstroke. The 200-yard medley relay team of Spazzarini, Cullen O'Brien (Bar Harbor, ME), Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA) and Lee Chaing (Lexington, MA) posted a first-place 1:41.86 time.
Sweeping the 100-yard and 200-yard butterflies was Lybarger with times of 52.85 and 2:00.36, respectively. Chaing took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.61), while O'Brien won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.55). Mason Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) recorded a 56.24 in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Babson 200-yard freestyle relay team of Greg Bissett (Cerritos, CA), Mauricio Krantzberg (Cancun, Mexico), Michael Flaherty (Walpole, MA), Edvard Arnet (Tokyo, Japan) won with a time of 1:31.28. Bissett would go on to finish first in the 50-yard (22.30) and 100-yard freestyle (48.63) in addition to the 200-yard IM (2:05.17). Arnet would see individual success in the 200-yard freestyle posting a time of 1:50.43.
Ryan Pope (Hawthorne, NY) took both diving events as he scored 247.15 in the one-meter and 252.00 in the three-meter dive. Isaac Breen-Franklin (Severna Park, MD) raced to a 500-yard freestyle (5:01.01) win.
Men's Swimming and Diving ventures to Coast Guard on Saturday for a noon meet. Babson heads to MIT on Saturday for a 1pm tri-meet with Bowdoin.
Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY) swept the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes and won the 500-yard freestyle as WPI downed Babson 147-126 on Saturday in a Women's Swimming and Diving meet. The Engineers improve to 2-1 while Babson dips to 1-2.
Peruffo posted a time of 1:04.20 in the 100-yard and 2:20.36 in the 200-yard backstroke, while finishing with a 5:46.24 in the 500-yard freestyle event. Rookie Taylor Briseno (Mansfield, MA) took the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly with times of 1:06.18 and 2:25.20, respectively.
Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) touched the pad first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:16.94) and posted the best time in the 200-yard IM (2:20.28). Winning the 200-yard breaststroke for the Crimson and Gray was Amanda Blom (Wilkes-Barre, PA) with a time of 2:44.60.
Babson won the 200-yard medley relay and freestyle relay. The medley team of Mallory Mosk (San Clemente, CA), Lily Yie (Longmont, CO), Mia Filippini (Lake Forest, IL) and Brittany Bishop (Little Neck, NY) completed their relay in 2:01.00, while the freestyle team of Hannah Powell (Media, PA), Albertine Turrini (Paris, France), Filippini and Bishop finished in 1:48.06.
For the individual events, Mosk won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.62), as Yie took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.40). The 50-yard freestyle saw Bishop finish with a 26.08, and Filippini took 57.06 to complete the 100-yard freestyle.
In the one-meter dive Mika Cucullo (South Salem, NY) scored an 187.68 for first place.
The Women's Swimming and Diving team heads to New London, CT on Saturday for a noon meet versus Coast Guard. Babson will take on MIT and Bowdoin when they travel to Cambridge, MA for a 1pm meet on Saturday.
