Following an extensive national search for a new head coach to lead the nationally and internationally renowned Indian River State College Swimming and Diving program, the college found their new leader was already on campus. Ryan Mallam, having completed his first season as a member of the 2010 National Championship Team coaching staff, will begin his new assignment as the Head Coach immediately.
Mallam joined the Indian River staff in August of 2009, following a stint as the Head Coach at Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina. While at Limestone, Mallam guided the men’s program to a 4th place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships and coached the fastest and second fastest ranked swimmers during the 2009 NCAA Division II championship meet in the 50 free. Under his guidance, the team set 3 national records, 22 team records and had 48 All-Conference performances at the championship meet. Overall, Limestone qualified 14 student-athletes for the NCAA Championship, the most ever in the history of the program.
Mallam was featured in Swimming World Magazine, May 2009, and has been recognized with the American Swim Coach’s Association 2009 Coach of Excellence Award.
Mallam was a four-year varsity letterman for the University of South Carolina’s swim program. Mallam was a South Eastern Conference scorer, a U.S. Open and Junior National Qualifier, Georgia Individual State Champion, and Senior Regional Champion as a swimmer. Mallam graduated from USC with a degree in business administration in 2000.
An immediate national search will begin to fill the Indian River Assistant Swimming & Diving Coaching position vacated with Mallam’s promotion.
