Vermont Women Down Dartmouth

Senior Colleen Clark (Unionville, Conn.) won three events to lead the Vermont swimming and diving team to a 163-137 victory over visiting Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium. The Cats won 10 events on the day, as they improve to 7-4 overall on the season with the win.

Clark swept the three freestyle events she competed in, winning the 50 (25.40), 100 (54.67) and 200 (1:55.46). Junior Kate Weaver (South Burlington, Vt.) and freshman Kailey Gardner (Ithaca, N.Y.) each earned a pair of victories as well to help Vermont earn only its second win over the Big Green in school history.

Weaver won the 100 (1:00.20) and 200 (2:08.26) backstroke events, while Gardner stayed undefeated in the 1,000 freestyle (10:47.93), leading the Cats to a 1-2-3 finish in the event, and also took first in the 200 IM (2:12.23). In the 1,000 free Gardner just touched out teammate Katie Heenan (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) by .01 seconds, while Sara Fogle (North Barrington, Ill.) placed third.

Also picking up first place finishes for the Catamounts were senior Molly MacMillan (Doylestown, Pa.) in the 500 freestyle (5:06.53) and sophomore Caitlin Dowd (Setauket, N.Y.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.15). In the 500 free the Cats went 1-2-3, as MacMillan was followed by Gardner and Heenan.

Vermont also won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:51.35 with the team made up of Weaver, Dowd, Avery Pittman (Raleigh, N.C.) and Hannah Center (Chevy Chase, Md.).

The Catamounts are right back in action tomorrow as they travel to face Central Connecticut State in a meet that starts are 1 p.m.


NOTES: In nine events on the day first and second place were separated by .72 seconds or less ... Saturday was Vermont's first home meet since October 24 when it defeated Siena ...
