Bentley Sweeps Bridgewater State

Men

Competing in their final career dual meet, seniors Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS) and Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) combined to win three individual events and two relays as Bentley University topped Bridgewater State College, 166-106, in men’s college swimming at Bridgewater Tuesday night.
              
The two teamed with classmates Greg McFadden (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional HS) and Merrick Saindon (Goshen, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) for a meet-opening win in the 200 yard medley relay, the quartet posting a time of 1:45.37.  Later, Saindon, Connolly, Laden and senior Woody Benson (Sharon/Sharon HS) partnered for a winning effort of 1:34.89 in the 200 free relay.
              
Connolly also posted wins in the 50 freestyle (23.65 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.32) while Laden was victorious in the 100 butterfly (59.15).
              
The other two double-winners for Bentley were freshman Keron Brown (Elmsford, N.Y./Iona Prep) and sophomore Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS). Brown touched first in the 50 breast (31.13) and the 50 butterfly (25.56), and Walsh swept the diving events with scores of 256.85 off the one-meter board and 255.70 from the three-meter.
              
The list of Bentley winners also included junior Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS) in the 100 free (50.79), sophomore Matt Wessels (Epsom, N.H./Bishop Brady HS) in the 100 individual medley (59.71), sophomore Erik Stricker (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central HS) in the 500 free (5:07.85), sophomore Pat Ryan (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury HS) in the 50 backstroke (27.89), freshman Mike Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 1000 free (10:55.18) and Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in the 200 free (1:54.32).
              
Bentley, 8-3, will have about 10 days off from competition to prepare for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Feb. 5-7 at Southern Connecticut State.

Women

Junior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) and freshman Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) each won three individual events and participated on the winning 200 yard medley relay team as the Bentley University women’s swimming team closed out its dual schedule with a 173-94 road win at Bridgewater State Tuesday night.
              
The two standouts combined with freshman Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and junior Sarah Temple (Topsham, Maine/Cheverus HS) for a winning time of 1:56.05 in the medley relay.
              
Kaduboski recorded wins in the 1000 freestyle (11:14.03), the 100 butterfly (1:00.88) and the 500 free (5:21.91) while Hodsdon was first to the finish in the 50 breaststroke (31.25), 100 free (56.87) and the 100 individual medley (1:03.06).
              
Drogosz’ night also included victories in the 50 free (26.34) and the 50 fly (29.32).
              
The other individual winners for Bentley were sophomore Susie Boretti (Westford/Westford Academy) in the 100 breast (1:14.93) and a trio of freshmen. Andrea Leahy (Andover/Andover HS) took the 50 back in 32.34, Abby Mathews (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) had a winning score of 245.95 on the one-meter board, and Shelly D’Aleo (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy) captured the one-meter diving with a 251.80.

Bentley, 9-3, will be off until the Northeast-10 Championships Feb. 5-7 at Southern Connecticut State.
