Oberlin Sweeps John Carroll

The Oberlin College men’s swimming and diving team avenged an early season loss to John Carroll and the Yeowomen knocked off the Blue Streaks for the second time this season on Friday night.

The Yeomen won their second dual meet of the season by the score of 124-108, while the Yeowomen were victorious by a count of 141-96.

“This was a great meet all the way around,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “After a tough week of practice the team responded really well and I am proud of their efforts.”

Sophomore Nick Lashway was a part of three wins on the night as he claimed the top spot in the 200-yard IM (2:01.92) and 200-yard back (2:02.56). The Leeds, Massachusetts, native also swam of the leadoff leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:40.81).

Junior Jon Vimr joined Lashway with a pair of individual wins as he won the 200-yard free with a timestamp of 1:50.23. He also tapped in first in the 500-yard free – stopping the clock at 5:08.55.

Senior Dan Holm also had a fine meet as he touched the wall first in the 200-yard breast with a mark of 2:20.30 and also placed second in the 200-yard IM at 2:06.66.

Sophomore Chris Canning added a win in the 50-yard free (22.26) and rookie James Foust added to his impressive season with a victory in the 100-yard free (49.38).

On the women’s side, Grace Aheron was a double winner with victories coming in the 200-yard free (1.59.82) and 200-yard back (2:12.33).

Junior Sara Kadi also registered a pair of wins in the 200-yard IM (2:15.44) and 200-yard fly (2:17.48).

Senior Shannon Gallagher was victorious in the 50-yard free as she went down and back in 26.29.

Junior Christine Martin won both diving events – taking the 3-meter with 2:03.85 points and the 1-meter with 178.65.

Oberlin will have little time to celebrate the win as it host Ohio Wesleyan University and Notre Dame College tomorrow at 11 a.m.
