Denver Women Fall to Colorado State
The University of Denver women’s swimming and diving team fell 187 to 113 to the Colorado State University Rams on Friday evening in the Moby Pool.
Senior Olivia Dean (Aurora, Colo.) led the way for the Pioneers as she finished with two first-place and two third-place finishes. She led the way in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:07.39 and then followed it with a first-place finish in the 100 Butterfly as she touched home with a time of 57.64. Dean also finished third in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 53.74 and third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.74.
Also turning in a strong performance for Denver was junior Melissa Greeves (Melbourne, Australia) as she secured a win in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 52.94 and a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:55.68.
Serving as the lead-off swimmer, Greeves also helped the Pioneers’ 400 Freestyle Relay to a first-place finish with a time of 3:30.61, along with teammates Grace Kittle (Dallas, Texas), Michelle Needham (Portland, Ore.) and Kristin Schmid (Aurora, Colo.). Greeves was also a member of Denver’s 200 Medley Relay team that finished in second place with a time of 1:45.87.
Securing a win in the 200 Backstroke, Kittle followed it up by finishing in second in the 100 Breaststroke. Kittle, along with Katy Motsinger (Charleston, S.C.), Greeves and Schmid were also a member of the Pioneers’ second-place 200 Medley Relay.
Both teams return to action on Fri., Jan. 29 as the Pioneers travel to South Bend, Ind., to take part in the Shamrock Invitational with Notre Dame, Iowa and Missouri. This will be the final meet for the Pioneers before the start of the Sun Belt Conference Championships from Feb. 17-20 in Nashville, Tenn.
