Counsilman-Hunsaker Swimmers of the Week: January 20, 2010

An NCAA "B" time and a pool record for
Amy Modglin (Penn State) and multiple NCAA "B times for Tyler Clary
earned the pair the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate
Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors. Also earning the award were Bethany Dong
(UC San Diego), Cheyne Fisher (Ashland University), Caroline Wilson
(Williams College) and John Thomas (Johns Hopkins University). The six
were selected by coaches and media relations personnel for their
performances January 11-17.
Division I Women
Amy Modglin
, Penn State University
Modglin (Fort Myers, FL)
had three wins in victories over Pittsburgh (194-156), Maryland
(185-168) and Villanova (276-77). The freshman won the 200 backstroke
(1:57.49, NCAA "B" time and pool record), the 200 individual medley
(2:04.44), the 400 individual medley (4:18.14, NCAA "B" time) and
finished third in the 100 backstroke (56.84). Modglin also assisted on
the second place 400 medley relay (3:50.09).
Division I Men
Tyler Clary, University of Michigan
Clary (Riverside, CA)
had one win to help his team to a first place finish at the Southern
Methodist University Classic. The junior won the 400 individual medley
(3:50.09, NCAA "B" time), swam to a second place finish in the 200
backstroke (1:44.21, NCAA "B" time), second in the 200 individual
medley (1:48.60, NCAA "B" time) and seventh in the 100 backstroke
(49.07). The All-American also assisted on the second place 800
freestyle relay (6:31.43, NCAA "B" time).
Division II Women
Bethany Dong, UC San Diego
Dong (Signal Hill, CA)
had two wins in the 168.5 - 131.5 dual meet victory over University of
San Diego. The freshman won the 1000 freestyle (10:26.85, NCAA "B"
time) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.88, NCAA "B" time). Dong also
assisted on the fourth place 200 freestyle relay (1:42.01).
Division II Men
Cheyne Fisher, Ashland University
Fisher (Durban, South Africa)
had two wins in double dual meet competition win over Carnegie Mellon
University (157-123) and loss to Kenyon College (134-146). The
freshman won the 100 breaststroke (57.56, NCAA "B" time) and the 200
breaststroke (2:06.24, NCAA "B" time).
Division III Women
Caroline Wilson, Williams College
Wilson (West Hartford, CT)
had three wins in the double dual victories over Tufts (175-115) and
Wesleyan (174-111). The freshman won the 1650 freestyle (17.07.94,
NCAA "A" time), the 200 butterfly (2:07.85, NCAA "B" time) and the 200
breaststroke (2:28.08). Wilson also swam on the exhibition 400
freestyle relay (3:39.98).
Division III Men 
John Thomas, Johns Hopkins University
Thomas (Montrose, CO)
had two wins in the double dual meet win over West Chester (202-162)
and loss to The College of New Jersey (183-175). The senior won the
100 backstroke (51.46, NCAA "B" time) and the 200 backstroke (1:53.26,
NCAA "B" time). The senior assisted on the winning 200 medley relay
(1:36.52) and the 400 medley relay (3:28.90, lead-off 50.97, NCAA "B"
time).
