Vermont Third at Orange Bowl Classic

The University of Vermont swimming and diving team finished third at the 2010 Orange Bowl Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Catamounts accumulated 393 points in the short-course meet that was won by George Mason (505 pts.) and followed in second by Duke (466 pts.).

Senior Colleen Clark (Unionville, Conn.) earned the Cats' only win of the day by taking first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.44. Classmate Molly MacMillan (Doylestown, Pa.) placed fourth in the event and freshman Abby Mundt (Madison, Wis.) came in sixth.

Junior Kate Weaver (South Burlington, Vt.) placed second in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:09.63, while freshman Karole-Ann Bayer (Richmond, Va.) placed third in the 50 back (33.70). Four Catamounts earned fourth place finishes at the meet: sophomore Avery Pittman (Raleigh, N.C.) in the 100 butterfly (1:08.43), sophomore Caitlin Dowd (Setauket, N.Y.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.38), freshman Emily Healy (Summit, N.J.) in the 200 IM (2:34.76) and sophomore Sara Fogle (North Barrington, Ill.) in the 400 free (4:47.14).

Vermont finished second in the 200 freestyle relay as Weaver, Hannah Center (Chevy Chase, Md.), Mundt and Clark came in with a time of 1:54.52. The Cats also placed third in the 200 medley relay with the team of Weaver, Dowd, Pittman and Clark in 2:05.50.

The Catamounts are now off until Saturday, January 9 when they will host Dartmouth at 12 p.m.
