Gustavus Snaps Carleton's Home Win Streak

Despite seven event titles, the Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team absorbed a 160-140 loss at Gustavus Adolphus. Full results can be found here. This was the Knights first dual meet setback against another Division III opponent since the Gusties edged Carleton by 15 points on Jan. 27, 2007. Gustavus tallied 12 event wins on the men's side en route to a 187-93 win.

Skylar Davis led the way with three first place finishes. Skylar won the 200 (1:46.14) and 500 freestyle (4:48.39), and the 200 IM (2:02.26). The Gusties won nine events as Carley Mosher led the team with three first place finishes. Mosher won the 100 butterfly (1:00.62), 200 backstroke (2:09.12), placed second in the 100 backstroke (59.95), and was member of first place 200 medley relay team. Her time in the 200 backstroke is a new pool record.
Molly Spence (Fy./Tacoma, Wash.) picked up the first individual title for Carleton, touching the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 10:34.61.

Maggie Alexander (So./Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) was the lone multi-event victor, posting first-place honors in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races.

Kale Zicafoose (Jr./Omaha, Neb/Westside) continued her strong season by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 59.2, good for a season-best time. She placed second in the 200-yard backstroke.

Kate Alexander (Sr./Tigard, Ore./Tualatin) returned to competition and took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season-best figure of 1:08.13.

Kelsey Ihinger (So./Eden Prairie, Minn.) added a victory in the 200-yard butterfly, and Sydney Weydemeyer (Jr./Santa Fe, N.M.) won the 3-meter diving competition.
Senior Carrie Gundersen turned in another impressive performance, placing first and setting a pool record in the 500 freestyle (5:11.68). Gundersen also won the 200 IM (2:17.11), placed second in the 1000 freestyle (10:36.81), and was a part of the first place 200 free relay team (1:39.55). Alicia Alvarado led the Gusties on the boards by taking first in the one-meter (187.80) and second in the three-meter diving (186.30). Maggie Hansvick and Sarah Hund registered Gustavus’s only other event wins. Hansvick won the 200 breaststroke (2:30.25) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.94), while Hund won the 50 freestyle (25.34).
The Knights host the College of Saint Benedict in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 16. Knights Online hopes to have a live video webcast from Thorpe Pool beginning at 12 p.m.
