Carleton Men Fall to St. John's (Minn.)

Junior Eric Brenner (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won the 3-meter diving competition as the Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team hosted Saint John’s University in a dual meet on Saturday. Brenner, just edged the Johnnies’ Wes Schlichting, 244.70 to 244.00. The pair flipped spots in the standings off the 1-meter board.


Two other Knights also won events as Saint John’s went on to post a 182-106 victory. Erik Klontz (Fy./Bethesda, Md./Chevy Chase-Bethseda) held off a trio of Johnnies for top honors in the 50-yard freestyle. Later, Mamoru Kanaza (Fy./Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary’s International) was first to the wall in the 100-yard butterfly.


Andrew Mering (Jr./Baraboo, Wis.) was unable to catch the Johnnies’ Andy Happe down the stretch of the 100-yard backstroke, finishing 0.06 behind at 55.54.


Adam Miller (Fy./Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) was selected as the Knights' swimmer of the meet. He placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and swam both the 100-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay.


The Knights will host the Carleton Mini-Invite next Saturday, Jan. 23 at 12:00 p.m.
