Counsilman-Hunsaker Swimmers of the Week: January 13, 2010

Two meet wins and multiple NCAA "B" for both Karlee Bispo (University of Texas) and Shaune Fraser (University of Florida) earn them the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors.  Also earning the award were Kate Aherne (Truman State University), Piotr Safronczyk (University of Bridgeport), Kendra Stern (Amherst College) and Paul Ellis (Kalamazoo College). The six won the award based on their performances for the weeks of December 28-January 10

BispoDivision I Women

Karlee Bispo, University of Texas
Bispo (Modesto, CA)
had four wins in dual meet victories over No. 8 Auburn (134-107) and No. 1 Georgia (153-147).  The sophomore won the 200 freestyle (1:47.15, NCAA "B" time), the 100 freestyle (49.71, NCAA "B" time and 49.21, NCAA "B" time) and the 50 freestyle (22.73, NCAA "B" time).  The All-American also swam on two winning relays--the 200 medley (1:40.70, NCAA "B" time), the 400 freestyle (3:17.84, NCAA "B" time Lead off 49.32, NCAA "B" time) and the second place 400 freestyle (3:22.38, NCAA "B" time).



Division I MenFraser 
Shaune, Fraser, University of Florida
Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands)
had four in dual meet victories over Indian River State College (174-102) and Louisiana State University (157.5-134.5).  Earning his second swimmer of the week award of the year, the senior won the 200 freestyle (1:36.93, NCAA "B" time), the 50 freestyle (20.55), the 200 backstroke (1:49.69) and the 500 freestyle (4:27.35, NCAA "B" time).  The  All-American also assisted on three winning relays-- the 200 medley (1:29.72), the 400 medley (3:18.76), the 200 freestyle (1:21.09, NCAA "B" time) and the second place 400 freestyle (3:00.63, NCAA "B" time).


Division II WomenAherne
Kate Aherne, Truman State University
Aherne (Cary, IL)
had two wins in the 110-79 dual meet victory over Lewis University.  The senior won the 400 individual medley (4:32.87, NCAA "A" time) and the 100 butterfly (59.39).  Aherne also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:37.46).

 
 

Division II Men
Piotr SafronczykSafronczyk, University of Bridgeport
Safronczyk (Bialystok, Poland)
had three wins to help the Purple Knights a sixth place finish at the 2010 College Winter Invitational at Daytona State College.  The sophomore became the first NCAA men's qualifier in school history with his win in the 100 breaststroke (57.07, NCAA "A" time), the 200 breaststroke (2:09.00, NCAA "B" time) and the 200 individual medley (1:57.39).
 
 
 
Division III WomenStern
 
Kendra Stern, Amherst College
Stern (Albuquerque, NM)
was the bright spot for Amherst with her three wins in the 91-207 dual meet loss to Williams College.  The junior won the 200 freestyle (1:51.35, NCAA "A" time), the 100 freestyle (51.81, NCAA "B" time) and the 200 individual medley (2:06.01, NCAA "B" time).  The All-American also swam on the second place 200 medley relay (1:49.26, NCAA "B" time).

 
 
Division III Men  Ellis
Paul Ellis, Kalamazoo College 
Ellis (Bloomfield Hills, MI
) had two wins in dual meet victories over Hope College (139-148), Carthage College (134-84) and a loss to University of Chicago (56-187).  The senior won the 100 backstroke (51.86, NCAA "B" time) and swam to a second place in the 100 butterfly (52.90) in the Hope meet.   The All-American won the 100 backstroke (51.31, NCAA "B" time) in the Carthage/Chicago dual.  Ellis also assisted on two winning relays versus Hope and Carthage/Chicago respectively, the 200 medley (1:34.53 and 1:35.17) and 200 freestyle (1:25.22 and 1:25.68).
