Northern Arizona
Northern Arizona swimming and diving turned in seven season best times and swept the diving portion of Friday’s double dual meet against No. 2 Arizona and Oregon State at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The Lumberjacks will host Idaho on Saturday, January 9 at the Wall Aquatic Center at 11 a.m.
“It is always tough going against Pac-10 opponents,” said head coach Andy Johns. “We had some girls with season bests and that is what we are looking for. We have a tough turnaround to be ready for Idaho but its good preparation for the end of the year. We are looking forward to being home.”
NAU (1-6) turned in notable performances in swimming, but the diving team won on both the 1-meter and 3-meter. The Lumberjacks finished first, third and fourth on both boards. Junior Taryn Harris finished first on the 3-meter while junior Lana Christensen placed first on the 1-meter.
“Diving is showing their strength,” Johns said. “We had an outright victory over Arizona in diving and a couple victories in swimming against Oregon State. There are lots of good things to take away from the meet.”
The Lumberjacks dropped to 0-16 all-time against No. 2 Arizona with a final score of 216-83 on Friday. NAU fell to Oregon State 164.5-97.5 and is now 0-5 all-time against the Beavers.
The Lumberjacks will be back in the pool on Saturday, January 9 against WAC opponent Idaho. NAU holds the series advantage defeating the Vandals in its three previous meetings.
Oregon State
The Oregon State women’s swim team fell Friday to Pacific-10 Conference opponent Arizona but defeated Northern Arizona and New Mexico State in a four-way meet in Tucson, Ariz.
“The girls came in a little tired today,” Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “They raced hard and with enthusiasm. It was good to come away with two wins today.”
Seniors Anna Crandall and Brittney Iverson anchored the Beavers on the day both coming away with third place finish. Crandall finished third in the 200y freestyle with a time of 1:52.52. Iverson finished one place back with a time of 1:53.84.
Iverson finished third in the 200y butterfly with a time of 2:06.11.
The team of Jenni Dole, Signe Larson, Arianna Gorenc, and Ashley Kerekanich finished third in to 200y medley relay to start the day with a time of 1:47.19.
“The second meet of back-to-back meets is usually a little better,” Liebowitz said. “I expect them to come out tomorrow and swim well.”
The Beavers look to bounce back against the Arizona State Sun Devils tomorrow, Saturday Jan. 9 starting at 11 a.m.
