America East - Day 3

Vermont

The University of Vermont swimming and diving team is fourth after the third day of competition at the America East Championships. The Cats have 295 points heading into Sunday, while Boston University continues to lead the pack with 498 points.

The Catamounts posted two top seven finishes in the 100 backstroke, as junior Kate Weaver (South Burlington, Vt.) placed fourth in a time of 57.60, while sophomore Kaitlyn Evarts (Vergennes, Vt.) came in seventh (58.27). Sophomore Hannah Center (Chevy Chase, Md.) also finished 12th in the event.

Seniors Colleen Clark (Unionville, Conn.) and Molly MacMillan (Doylestown, Pa.) finished second and seventh in the 200 freestyle, as Clark posted a time of 1:50.33 and MacMillan 1:52.81. Sophomore Katie Heenan (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) earned a 12th place showing in the event.

Freshman Kailey Gardner (Ithaca, N.Y.) set a new UVM varsity and freshmen mark in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.62 to finish fourth. The time was a personal best by five seconds as she improved her finish after qualifying eighth in the morning preliminary session. Freshmen Chelsea Krisanda (Webster, N.Y.) and Emily Healy (Summit, N.J.) also scored in the event by finishing 13th and 15th.

Sophomore Avery Pittman (Raleigh, N.C.) finished fifth in the 100 butterfly in a time of 56.73, while Weaver placed 13th. Sophomore Caitlin Dowd (Setauket, N.Y.) also came in 13th in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.08). The team of Weaver, Dowd, Pittman and Clark came in fifth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:54.34.
