Bentley University captured its first-ever Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship Sunday night, finishing 75.5 points in front of six-time champion Southern Connecticut State.
Competing at Southern’s Hutchinson Natatorium, the Falcons totaled 818.5 points and earned the title despite only two gold medals, both won by junior Jon Andrews (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) in diving, in the 20 events that were contested. Southern Connecticut was second of seven with 743, and the College of Saint Rose was a distant fourth with 526.5.
Bentley’s highest finishes during Sunday’s action, the third day of the meet, were a pair of thirds, achieved by seniors Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS) in the 200 yard backstroke (1:57.88) and Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) in the 200 breaststroke (214.60).
The Falcons took fourth through sixth in the 1650 freestyle, with junior Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS) topping the list with a 17:35.13. He was followed by freshman Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) and sophomore Erik Stricker (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central HS), with times of 17:41.23 and 17:41.35, respectively.
Bentley’s other fifth place finishes on Sunday were achieved by freshman George Go (Manila, Philippines) in the 200 butterfly (2:06.42) and the 400 free relay team of Ouellette, Laden, junior Chris Horan (Hanover, Mass./Boston College HS) and sophomore Joe Frantel (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman HS).
Sophomore Patrick Ryan (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury HS) was sixth in the 200 back (2:05.71) and freshman Mike Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) had a similar finish in the 200 fly (2:06.64).
Bentley’s next competition is the New England Swimming and Diving Association Championships with the swimming events in White River Junction Feb. 19-21 and the diving events at Bentley next weekend.

Bentley Women
Bentley University junior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./Dedham HS) swam to a gold medal in the 200 yard butterfly as the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships came to a close at Southern Connecticut State’s Hutchinson Natatorium Sunday night.
Her efforts helped the Falcons finish fourth of eight in the championships, with a total of 483 points. Southern Connecticut captured the team title for the seventh straight year, the Owls’ score of 988.5 producing a winning margin of 256 over second-place Saint Rose. Le Moyne College was third with 524.
Kaduboski, who repeated as 100 fly champ on Saturday, collected her third career NE-10 gold medal when she posted a winning time of 2:07.97 in the 200 fly. She touched 1.55 seconds ahead of runner-up Amy Lamparelli of Saint Rose.
Bentley also picked up two silvers on Sunday with freshman Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/ Brewer HS) placing second in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.57) and junior Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) did the same in the three-meter diving (356.80).
Kaduboski was involved in two fifth-place finishes during the meet’s final day, in the 200 backstroke (2:09.93) and in the 400 free relay (3:43.24), where she anchored a team that included freshman Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS), sophomore Susie Boretti (Westford, Mass./Westford HS) and Hodsdon.
Boretti also picked up a fifth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:25.82, and freshman Abby Mathews (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) was sixth in the three-meter diving (331.75).
Coming up for the Falcons will be the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships (diving at Bentley Feb. 13-14, swimming in White River Junction, Vt. Feb. 19-21).
