All Treats for Toledo at Eastern Michigan Tri-Meet

October 31st, 2009

The University of Toledo swimming and diving team improved to 6-1 on the fall and sets up interesting showdowns next week with two MAC heavyweights after the Rockets scored a 167.5-132.5 win over Eastern Michigan and a 215-83 victory over UW-Milwaukee Saturday.

The Rockets have a big weekend ahead, as the team hosts Miami at 5 p.m. Friday and Ohio at 1 p.m. Saturday at the UT Student Rec Center pool. Those teams were the only two to place in front of Toledo at last year's MAC Championships.

Saturday's performance was highlighted by victories in 10 events. Toledo started the day with a win in the 400 medley relay, led by senior Ashley Cusack (Willow Spring, IL), senior Caitlin Cormack (Bedford, OH), junior Amanda Thompson (Monroe, MI) and freshman Carly Harter (North Huntingdon, PA), and didn't stop from there.

Harter picked up a pair of wins on her own, taking the crown in the 200 free and 200 IM. Sophomore Laura Lindsay (Uniontown, OH) moved to eight-for-eight in the breaststroke events this season as she hit the wall first in both the 100 and 200. Senior Katie White (Leland, MI) finished first in the 50 free and junior Jacy Dyer (Lebanon, PA) won the 1650 free.

Additionally, Cusack took first in the 200 back and freshman Kenzie Bagan (Roanoke, IN) placed first in the 200 butterfly. The Rockets wrapped up the day with a win in the 400 free, led by White, Thompson, Cormack and sophomore Jacque Fate (Fremont, OH).

"It's been very important for us to get off to this good start," said head coach Lars Jorgensen. "The girls competed better than they did yesterday [a 155-143 win over Ball State] and I'm proud of that. That shows a lot about the maturity of our team over a long weekend, and everyone definitely contributed today. But next weekend will be very big for us as we continue to prepare for the rest of the season."
