Weekend Preview
Ones to Watch
10/30-31: Indiana, Michigan at Texas (W) – The weekend’s only match-up of top 10 teams from last year’s NCAA meet pits Texas (5th) against Indiana (10th) with Michigan (24th) also thrown in the mix. The Longhorn women, usually a lock to have the toughest dual meet schedule in the country, opened the year with a win over Missouri and a second-place finish at the Big 12 Relays. Indiana began their season by scraping past Northwestern, 156-144, last weekend in Evanston, however the Hoosiers do bring the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week in Kate Fesenko to the 40 Acres. The Wolverines are 3-0 this season with wins over Notre Dame, Toledo, and Toronto. The Longhorns won 211-178 and 259-130 against the Hoosiers and Wolverines, respectively, last season.
10/30: South Carolina at Clemson – The battle between the Palmetto State’s top schools will take place Friday night at Clemson. The Gamecocks hold a firm grip in each all-time series but the Tigers will be looking to write some history in their favor this weekend. Clemson’s 4-0 women take on a 0-3 S.C. squad while the Tiger men are 2-1 with the South Carolina’s men 1-2. The Cocks do have the reigning SEC Diver of the Week in Courtney Forcucci and did sweep the Tigers a year ago on Halloween.
10/31: UNLV, Arizona State at Utah – Utah will welcome both the five-time Mountain West champion Runnin’ Rebel men and PAC-10 foe Arizona State to town on Saturday. UNLV, competing in its season opener, lost only two seniors off its WAC title team from a season ago. Utah head coach Greg Winslow will face his former school in ASU for only the second time as well (Winslow was an asst. at ASU). Utah holds a 6-4 advantage over UNLV in the all-time series however the Rebels grabbed a 179-121 win last season. UNLV’s women were a close second to BYU at last year WAC Championship. Those two will face off in Provo on Friday.
