Wright State Ambushes Valpo
Women:
Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) won the 100 freestyle for Valparaiso but Wright State ruined the Crusaders’ dual meet and home opener on Saturday morning defeating the Brown and Gold 164-40 at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
Majercik posted a time of 54.76 seconds in the 100 free to cruise to victory by 1.28 seconds for the Brown and Gold.
Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) finished runner-up for the Crusaders in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.79, just .32 seconds off of the pace.
Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) placed third in the 200 free with a time of 2:02.69 and Jenny Nam (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) placed third in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 1:05.57 for Valpo’s other top-three finishes.
Valparaiso (0-1) will return to the water on November 14 in Cleveland, Ohio for a quadrangular meet. The Crusaders will face host Cleveland State along with Niagara and Saint Bonaventure beginning at 12 p.m. CST.
Men:
David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) won the 400 individual medley for Valparaiso’s lone event victory on Saturday morning as Wright State defeated the Crusaders 164-40 in the Brown and Gold’s home opener at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
Sivak cruised to a win in the 400 IM with a time of with a time of 4:19.76, winning the event by more than six seconds.
Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County placed third for the Crusaders in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.56 while Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.) earned the same place in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.68. Fedde was also third in the 500 free, finishing in 5:05.29.
Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./ La Crescent H.S.) finished third in the 50 free, touching the wall in 22.18 seconds while also earning the same finish in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 54.91 seconds.
Andrew Hipskind (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine H.S.) added a top-three finish in the 100 backstroke, placing third in 1:04.75. Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) earned Valpo’s final top-three finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.44.
