FGCU Tops FIU

The FIU swimming & diving team hosted its second consecutive home meet on Saturday morning as the Panthers faced Florida Gulf Coast at the Bay Vista Aquatic Center. The Panthers fell to the Eagles, 205.5-92.5.
FIU began the meet with a third-place performance in the 200 medley relay as Danielle Sneir, Erin Pavlick, Yesica Rojas and Mariangela Macchiavello teamed up for a time of 1:53.63.
Freshman Kayla Derr followed up with a first-place finish in the 1000 free, touching in 10:55.36.
Sneir secured a third-place finish in the 100 back event with a mark of 1:02.13 and the 100 breast race saw Penny Baxter and Pavlick take second and third place, respectively, as Baxter touched in 1:09.39 and Pavlick finished in 1:09.59.
Rojas notched a second-place finish in the 200 fly as she touched in 2:12.79, while Macchiavello took second and Kelly Grace placed third in the 100 free with marks of 56.26 and 57.89, respectively.
The 200 back saw Sneir touch in 2:16.35 for a second-place performance and Pavlick continued to have a stellar day, placing second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:29.19.
Derr also had a great day in the pool as the freshman took third in the 500 free in 5:15.32. Rojas took the momentum from her second-place performance in the 200 fly event and went one-better in the 100 fly to take first in 59.58 seconds.
Freshman Jamie Stinson recorded her second collegiate victory with a score of 212.25 on the 3-meter board, while, back in the pool, Baxter, Macchiavello and Sneir went one-two-three to take second, third and fourth place in the 200 IM.
The meet came to a close with the FIU foursome of Rojas, Vicnan Torres, Kelly Boyd and Derr taking third place in the 400 free relay.
The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 14, when the squad welcomes back former FIU swimmers for the annual Alumni Meet. The meet will be held at Bay Vista Aquatic Center on FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus and is set to begin at 11 a.m.
