In its first Pac-10 Conference meet, the Oregon State women’s swim team fell to the Trojans of USC 132-116 Friday at the McDonald’s Swim Stadium in Las Angeles, Calif.

“In some ways we swam well today and in others we struggled,” Oregon State head coach Larry Liebowitz said following the meet. “USC is looking like one of the top two or three teams in the nation.”

The relays proved to be bright spots for the Beavers who won the 200y medley relay in a time of 1:45.54 and the 200y freestyle relay in a time of 1:36.69

Senior Brittney Iverson recorded her first dual win of the season in the 200y individual medley with a time of 2:05.46. Newcomer Rachel O’Brien got her first dual win of her Oregon State career in the 100y butterfly (56.88) while Senior Kate Hagan won the 500y freestyle (5:12.28)

O’Brien also placed fourth in the 200y butterfly with a time of 2:01.84 which places here in the top-10 all-time at Oregon State in the event.

Transfer Ellie Bradley took home second place in the 100y breaststroke (1:05.49) after being out touched by USC’s Ella Kidron (1:05.25) by 0.24 seconds.

Freshman Arianna Gorenc finished second in the 50y freestyle (24.04).

“We swam pretty well today and I think we will swim even better tomorrow,” Liebowitz said. “We are going to put this one behind us and focus on what will be a close meet tomorrow.”

Oregon State will be back in the pool tomorrow (Oct. 24) in Santa Barbara, Calif. when it takes on UCLA and UC-Santa Barbara starting at 12pm.
