Stanford:
Bobby Bollier and Eugene Godsoe each won two individual events to lead the Cardinal at the Pacific Invitational on Saturday.
Bollier was a part of three wins overall, as he finished off his day by swimming the third leg of the 800 relay, as the Cardinal won that event with a time of 6:47.18. Bollier also won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.55 and the 100 fly with a mark of 50.01.
The Cardinal dominated the 200 butterfly against the five other teams at the meet, posting the five fastest times in that event. Overall the Cardinal won eight of the 10 events they entered on Saturday against the Tigers, Cal, BYU and Air Force.
For Godsoe, he won the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.44 and the 200 event with a time of 1:47.40.
David Mosko, who was the anchor leg of the 800 relay team, also finished second to teammate Chad La Tourette in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.85 and was second to Bollier in the 200 fly with a time of 1:46.65. La Tourette led the field in the 500 with a time of 4:29.90.
Also winning for the Cardinal was Josh Charnin-Aker, who won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.02 and Curtis Lovelace, who won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:04.24.
The Cardinal are next in action when both the men's and women's teams host their alumni, Homecoming Saturday, October 24 at 9 a.m.
California:
The California men's swimming team won the 200 free
relay and junior standout Nathan Adrian captured the 100 freestyle
Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton. The Golden
Bears earned 420.5 points in competing in only one day of the two-day
meet. Adrian, the 2009 NCAA champion in the 50 and 100 free, clocked in at
44.44 in the 100 free in Stockton to help lead a 1-2-3 Cal sweep in the
event. Former Bear sprint freestylers Will Copeland was second (44.49) and
Bennett Clark third (45.65).
Adrian was also instrumental in Cal’s victory in the 200 free relay,
swimming the lead-off leg of the team that included juniors Graeme Moore,
Josh Daniels and Guy Barnea. In the 200 free relay, the Bears topped Bay
Area rival Stanford, 1:21.79-1:23.39.
Other top performances by Cal Saturday included sophomore Martin Liivamagi
placing second in the 200 IM (1:53.63), Barnea taking third in the 100
back (50.53) and junior Damir Dugonjic, the 2009 NCAA champ in the 100
breast, finishing third in the 200 breast (2:07.21). Sophomore Nolan Koon
was fourth in the 200 breast (2:08.79).
Former Cal backstroker David Russell had a pair of runner-up finishes in
the 100 (49.11) and 200 back (1:47.54).
The Bears’ next action will be when they host Stanford in an exhibition
triple-distance meet on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics
Complex.
Pacific:
The Pacific men's swim team completed day two of the Pacific Invitational in fifth place of six teams. In the first men's event of the day, the men's 200 Free Relay teams touched the wall in 1:30.59 and 1:32.41 for the ninth and tenth place spots.
Sophomore Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) recorded the fastest time in the 100 Back (54.74) for the Tigers. In his second event of the day Byers swam the 200 IM in 2:01.70.
In the 500 Free junior Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) rounded out the top 15 touching the wall in 4:49.75. Senior Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.) completed the 500 free in 4:48.57.
Senior Kyle Accornero (Livermore, Calif.) recoded Pacific's best time of the day in the 100 Free (49.38). In the 200 Back, Byers just missed a top 10 finish with a time of 1:58.20. Juniors Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif.), Daniel Platow (Westporn, Conn.) and Chris Berg (Chico, Calif.) touch the wall with times of 2:01.39, 2:05.71 and 2:06.79 respectively. Freshman Jonathan Kim (Bakersfield, Calif.) completed the event in 2:08.01.
For Pacific in the 100 Butterfly junior David Hernandez (Chico, Calif.) picked up the Tigers fastest time (56.21) with seniors Accornero and David Mathews (Dublin, Ireland) touching the wall with back-to-back finishes with times of 56.43 and 56.96.
The Tiger women finished third as the 2009 Pacific Invitational came to a close. BYU took first, followed by Oregon State University in second. Air Force finished in fourth and University of Nevada, who only competed on Saturday, took fifth place.
The Tigers took a fourth and fifth-place finish in the 200 fly. Sophomore Elena Walterman (Framingham, Mass.) finished in 2:07.43, with senior Melissa McGhee touching the wall at 2:07.47. McGhee later took fifth-place in the 200 Back with a time of 2:10.29.
In the 100 Back, senior Devonie Migues (Santa Rancho Margarita, Calif.) took third with a time of 58.07.
Senior KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah) swam the 500 free in 5:01.79 to earn second-place for the event. Sophomore Jayme Swalin (Kenmore, Wash.) finished in sixth-place with a time of 5:10.97. Freshman Jenna Chaplin (Nassau, Bahamas) finished with a time of 5:14.17, good enough for ninth-place.
Migues led Pacific swimmers in the 200 IM, finishing in sixth-place with a time of 2:10.29. Walterman swam a 58.52 in the 100 Fly to take sixth-place. Chaplin was the next Tiger to finish at 1:00.24. Migues finished in fourth for the 200 Breast, touching the wall at 2:24.97. Swalin finished ninth with a time of 2:28.95 and freshman Mallory McGowan (Colusa, Calif.) rounded out the Tigers in the top ten with a time of 2:30.12.
Walterman, Swalin, Chaplin, and Albiston combined for third-place in the 800 Free Relay with a time of 7:54.58.
The Tigers will host the Orange vs. Black Alumni Meet at 10:00 am on October 24 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The Air Force men’s and women’s swimming teams wrapped up a strong start to the season by completing competition Saturday at the Pacific Invitational, being held at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The men finished third in the team standings with 567 points, while the women took fourth place with 296.5 points.
Leading the way for the Air Force men on the second day of competition was junior Josh Hammervold (Sugar Land, Texas), who posted a ninth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:11.66. Hammervold was also the Falcons’ top performer in the 200 IM, placing 12th with a time of 1:58.02.
Also registering a top-10 finish for the Falcons was senior Sean O’Keefe (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who placed 10th in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:43.46. O’Keefe also turned in Air Force’s top finish in the 100 free, placing 19th in the race.
Senior captain Chris Morin (Sr., Crown Point, Ind.) placed 13th in the 100 fly with a mark of 52.05 to lead the Falcons in the event, while also turning in the team’s top performance in the 100 backstroke, placing 21st. Eric Robinson (Jr., Lakewood, Colo.) was Air Force’s top finisher in the 200 fly, placing 13th with a mark of 1:56.82, while freshman Paul Young (Lakeville, Minn.) turned in the Falcons’ top performance in the 200 back, finishing 14th with a time of 1:59.53.
Other scorers for the Falcons on day two were Corydon Butler (So., Williamsburg, Va.), who placed 13th in the 500 free, and Greg Edmonds (Sr., Fairfax Station, Va.), Cody Deacon (So., Portland, Ore.), and Mark Hansen (Fr., Berkeley Heights, N.J.), who finished 13th,14th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 breast.
On the women’s side, freshman Haley Holcombe (Snellville, Ga.) was the top individual performer for the Falcons, earning the team’s lone top-10 finish by placing 10th in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:11.50. Holcombe also led Air Force in two other events, placing 11th in both the 200 IM (2:12.26) and 100 butterfly (58.96).
Katrina Castellanos (Fr., Roseville, Calif.), who finished 11th in the 200 butterfly, was the Falcons’ top performer in the 200 breaststroke, placing 12th in a time of 2:30.38. Sophomore Cassie Fletcher (Durham, N.C.) led Air Force with an 11th-place finish in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 54.39, while junior Kaeli Kluesner (Denver, Colo.) was the Falcons’ top scorer in the 200 back, placing 12th with a time of 2:13.22.
Also scoring for Air Force on Saturday were Shelby Schaefer (Fr., Roseville, Calif.) and Rachel Reeder (So., St. Thomas, Pa.), who placed 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 back, and Becky Gleason (Sr., Ballwin, Mo.), who finished 16th in the 200 fly. In addition, senior captain Katelyn Hunter (La Crescent, Minn.) led Air Force in the 100 back, finishing 16th with a time of 1:03.12, while freshman Rachel Roberts (Eagle River, Alaska) was the Falcons’ top performer in the 500 freestyle, placing 18th.
The Falcons return to action next Friday, Oct. 23, when they host conference rival TCU in their home opener. The dual meet is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. at Cadet Natatorium.
