Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sweeps Valpo

MILWAUKEE, Wis. , November 21st, 2009           
MEN

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team won all 15 events on its way to a commanding 200-57 victory over Valparaiso University Saturday at the Klotsche Natatorium. Sophomore Jake Koll and freshmen Nathan Welchlin and Mike Schalla each won two events to lead the way as the Panthers won their home opener and improved to 16-0 all-time against the Crusaders with the victory. In addition to the three already mentioned, Milwaukee also received individual victories from senior Jeremy Waldhart, sophomores Jordan Diel, Evan Green, Brady Huemann and Sam Keele and freshmen Cris Smith, Zachary Kraai and Justin Hastings.


Valparaiso wrapped up its weekend in Wisconsin on Saturday morning, dropping a 200-57 dual meet to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wis.
 
David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold with three top-three finishes on the afternoon.  He finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.04, just one second behind the winner.  He also posted a third place effort in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.65 while also finishing third in the 200 butterfly after touching the wall in 2:00.13.
 
Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.) also had a third place finish for the Brown and Gold in the 100 free with a time of 49.40 seconds.
 
Valparaiso (0-6) will return to the water December 3-5 at the Calvin Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich.

WOMEN

Senior Kerry Rossow, juniors Danielle Wenger and Kelsey George and sophomore Danielle Chapman each won a pair of events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team to a lopsided 201-72 victory over Valparaiso University Saturday morning at the Klotsche Natatorium. The Panthers, who were swimming in their home opener, have now beaten the Crusaders 15 consecutive times and improved to 15-1 all-time in the series (falling only in 1991). The team won 14 of 15 events on the day, falling only in the 100 butterfly.



Returning to the pool for the second time in less than 24 hours, Valparaiso’s women’s swimming and diving team fell 201-72 to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday morning in Milwaukee, Wis.
 
Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) earned Valpo’s lone victory on the afternoon, posting a time of 1:00.58 in the 100 butterfly to win by more than a second-and-a-half.  The senior also finished third in the 50 free with a time of 25.19 seconds.
 
Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:19.03 while Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) added a third place finish for the Brown and Gold in the 100 breaststroke.  She touched the wall in 1:10.93.
 
Valparaiso (0-6) will return to action December 3-5 at the Calvin Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich.
