GRAND CANYON MEN
Freshman Riley Smith (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian) broke the school record in the 400 IM (4:55.16) and senior Alexis Glessner (pictured, Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain/N. Colorado) set a new mark for the 1650 Freestyle (18:19.76) as Grand Canyon University's women's swimming team placed third at the Trinity Western Shootout Friday and Saturday.
The 'Lopes added two more records in the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays. Smith was the anchor on the medley team (1:54.94) and was joined by freshman Karlee Grundeis (Bakersfield, Calif./East Bakersfield), freshman Julie Redaway (Braine L'Alleud, Belgium/Ste Gertrude Nivelles) and sophomore Brooke Bellah (Phoenix, Ariz./Christian).
With a time of 1:43.38, Smith, Grundeis, Glessner and Bellah set the freestyle record.
GCU scored 596 points, trailing only first place Trinity (1,020) and Division I Centenary (1,000). The 'Lopes finished ahead of Southwestern, UT-Permian Basin, a fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team, McMurry, Hendrix, and Austin.
The men's and women's team combined to finish third, behind first place Centenary and Trinity.
GRAND CANYON WOMEN
Grand Canyon University's men's swimming team placed fourth at the Trinity University Western Shootout Friday and Saturday.
GCU scored 435 points. Division I Centenary won with 1,024. UT-Permian Basin, also from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference was second with 706. Host Trinity had 651. GCU finished ahead of Hendrix, McMurry, Southwestern and Austin College.
In combined men's and women's scoring, the 'Lopes were third behind Centenary and Trinity.
GCU broke two school records. Artem Tretiakov (Donetsk, Ukraine/Donetsk National University) set a new mark in the 50 Freestyle (21.00) and Richie Krzyzanowski (pictured, Scottsdale, Ariz/Pinnacle) broke the record in the 200 Butterfly (1:58.26).
