Weekend Review
Dawgs & Gators Split – The Florida men and Georgia women both earned big wins over their SEC rivals on the same weekend the Gators chomped the Bulldogs in a showdown on the football field. Both Shaune Fraser (1:50.12/200 IM; 1:46.59 200 FL) and Conor Dwyer (44.97/100 FR; 1:37.48 200 FR) were double winners for Florida while the Gator men also swept both relays and both diving events. U.S. Olympian Allison Schmitt led the way for the Bulldogs, with wicked-fast October winning times both the 200 free (1:46.02) and 500 free (4:44.72). The Georgia ladies won six more individual swimming races and two more relays to roll past the Gator women, 137-104.
Photo Finishes in South Carolina – In two dual meets that proved as good as advertised, Clemson’s men and women won tight home battles against their in-state rival South Carolina. Clemson’s women overcame a 138-126 deficit with two races to go, thanks to a 1-2 finish in the 200 IM and a win in the meet deciding 400 free relay. The Tiger women won 155-145. The men’s meet was just as epic, with Clemson eking out a win by .03 to grab a 160-140 decision.
Horns Off and Running – Both the Texas men and women opened their home schedule with wins over solid competition. The Longhorn men topped Indiana, 179-149, while the ladies beat both Indiana, 222-162, and Michigan, 235-149. Ricky Berens grabbed wins in the 100 free (1:44.91), 100 fly (49.26), and 200 fly (1:48.71), diver Matt Cooper won the 1M (352.13) and the tower (366.35) and Jonathan Wilcox took both the 500 (4:28.71) and 1,650 (15:42.44) free to pace the Texas men’s effort. The Longhorn women rode a sweep of the five relays (1:32.80/3:22.96/7:23.00/1:43.04/3:42.81), Kathleen Hersey (53.97, 100 FL; 1:56.98, 200 FL; 1:59.79, 200 IM; 4:14.40, 400 IM), diver Lauren Caldwell (278.60/308.85), freshman breaststroker Laura Sogar (1:02.96/2:15.41) to their wins over the Hoosiers and Wolverines.

Utah (M) 187, Arizona State 113: John Baque wins three (100, 200 breast; 200 IM) of Utah’s 12 victories as the Utes storm past the Sun Devils.
Duke (M) 171.5, Georgia Tech 128.5: Swimmer Spencer Booth and diver Nick McCrory grab two wins each as the Blue Devils sting the Yellow Jackets.
