Diplomats’ Streak at 17

With its 117-88 win over Swarthmore Saturday, Franklin&Marshall's men's swimming team won its 17th consecutive Centennial Conference (CC) dual meet. The streak dates back to 2006 when the Diplomats lost to the Garnet. 

Franklin&Marshall's women won eight of the 11 races swam during a 140-64 defeat of Bryn Mawr.  The Diplomats draw even on the season at 1-1 and open the conference season 1-0. The Owls dropped to 0-2 (0-1 CC).

Six different Diplomats registered wins in individual races and F&M took the relays at both ends of the program. A first-year foursome captured the first relay. Kasey Christiansen, Lili Shainis, Courtney Gregor and Ana Franzluebbers turned in a 1:58.97 in the 200-yard medley relay to start the night. Shainis took the 100-yard breaststroke logging a 1:13.54. She touched nearly 2.5 seconds ahead of the Owls' Zoe Guastella.

Guastella was one of three Bryn Mawr swimmers to capture a race, winning the 200-yard individual medley.

F&M's men moved to 1-2 (1-0 CC) on the season by winning seven of the 11 events.

Matt Jaffee and Tom Grabiak both won two individual events for the Diplomats and teamed with Zach Wilt and Peter Fishler to win the 200 medley relay with a 1:38.44.

Jaffee placed first in the 200 IM (2:01.93) and the 200 backstroke (1:57.27) while Grabiak won both the 200 butterfly (1:58.48) and the 200 breast (2:13.02).

Fishler took the top spot in the 100 freestyle (49.53)

Wilt, Tom Bergstrom, Ken Dautrich, and Jake Reingold won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.89.

Ayse Ergin, Krista Hollingsworth, Katherine DeCrosta, and Zeynep Ergin combined for a 1:43.43 in winning the 200-yard free relay. Zeynep Ergin and DeCrosta went one-two in the 100-yard backstroke. Ayse Ergin narrowly defeated Bryn Mawr's Meredith Davis in the 50-yard free. Ergin's time of 25.89 was .07 seconds faster than Davis' mark. Davis won the 100-yard free for the Owls.

Garland Bartlett, Laura Bassford, and Olivia Hill each won a race for F&M. Bassford held 20 seconds on the field in the 1,000-yard free, while Bartlett edged out BMC's Kelsey Power by .07 seconds in the 100- fly. Hill defeated Cea Weaver by .66 seconds in the 200 free.   

Both the men and women return to action next Friday night at The College of New Jersey.

Franklin & Marshall returns to the pool on November 21st when the Diplomats travel to Washington (Md.).
