Washington & Jefferson Sweeps Baldwin-Wallace

The Washington & Jefferson College swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday afternoon.  The W&J men (2-0) recorded a 175-125 triumph, while the Presidents’ women (3-0) posted a 134-103 win. 


Junior Brandon Smith (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) won three events for the Washington & Jefferson men, while sophomores C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), Katie Steider (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) and Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) all won three events for the second-straight meet for the women’s squad. 
 
Smith touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.89), 200 backstroke (2:05.84) and 400 IM (4:30.45). 
 
Vogel and Corcoran led the 400 medley relay team to an opening victory in a time of 4:16.50 and then won the 200 freestyle (2:01.12) and 400 IM (4:45.95).  Corcoran also claimed the 50 freestyle (25.84) and 100 butterfly (1:02.59). 
 
Steider posted wins in the 100 (1:02.78) and 200 (2:19.25) backstroke events before helping the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.49) to a victory in the final race. 
 
Freshman Patrick O’Toole (Butler, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched first-place showings in the 500 (5:10.82) and 1000 (10:44.24) freestyles, while classmate Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) added two wins for the women’s team.  Dagg racked up victories in the 200 butterfly (2:20.55) and 500 freestyle (5:34.44).
 
Both squads return to the pool on Wednesday for a dual meet at PAC-rival Westminster (6:00 pm) in New Wilmington, Pa.
