Freshman Kasey Richardson won two events and swam on a winning relay, while sophomore Gavin Spake won two events as UNC Wilmington swept visiting College of Charleston on Saturday in swimming and diving action at the Seahawk Natatorium.
The Seahawk men (7-1) ran their winning streak to seven straight, while the women ran their mark to 7-2. The Cougars fell to 1-3 on the men’s side and 3-5 on the women’s. UNCW posted a 156-124 win in the women’s meet and a 157-125 victory in the men’s.
Richardson helped the Lady Seahawks open the meet, swimming the second leg of the 400 Medley Relay that finished first with a time of 4:01.60. UNCW followed that winning performance with winning time of 3:29.58 by the men with Spake swimming the third leg of the relay.
Richardson added wins in the 100 (1:09.15) and the 200 Breaststrokes (2:27.45).
Spake keyed the Seahawks by winning the 200 Butterfly (1:56.60) and helping UNCW in the 400 IM Relay with a top time of 4:10.79.
Also having solid afternoons for the Seahawks were sophomore Anna Munger and senior Pete Humphries. Munger swam on the 400 Medley Relay and later won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:58.69. Humphries, meanwhile, swam the leadoff leg of the 400 Medley Relay and captured the 200 Backstroke, posting a time of 1:56.94.
The Seahawks will take a break from dual meet competition next weekend when they visit Fairfax, Va., for the Patriot Invitational. The meet begins on Nov. 20 and concludes on Nov. 22.
