Six Schools Represented in National Honors

Somers, WI , November 11th, 2009           
An NCAA "A" time for Kevin Coates (Lewis University) and multiple NCAA "B" times for Leah Gingrich (University of Texas) earned the pair the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors.  Also earning the award were Matt McLean (University of Virginia), Kate Aherne (Truman State University), Chelsea Hoff (University of Wisconsin-La Crosse) and Chris Bateman (St. Olaf College).  The six won the award based on their performances for the week of November 2-8.

GingrichDivision I Women

Leah Gingrich, University of Texas
Gingrich (Enola, PA)
had three wins in the 166-134 dual meet victory over Texas A&M.  The sophomore won the 1000 freestyle (9:49.06), the 200 butterfly (1:58.08, NCAA "B" time) and the 500 freestyle (4:48.19, NCAA "B" time).  The All-American also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:21.59, NCAA "B" time).

 

Division I MenMcLean 
Matt McLean, University of Virginia
McLean (Sterling, VA)
had two wins in the 165-125 dual meet victory over the University of Kentucky. The junior won the 500 freestyle (4:26.48, NCAA "B" time) and the 200 freestyle (1:38.08, NCAA "B" time).

 

Division II WomenAherne
Kate Aherne, Truman State University
Aherne (Cary, IL)
had two wins in the 69-53 dual meet victory over Missouri State.  The senior won the 200 individual medley (2:07.42, NCAA "A" time) and the 200 freestyle (1:55.36, NCAA "B" time).  Aherne also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:32.84) and the winning 400 medley relay (3:55.65).



Division II Men
Kevin Coates, Lewis University
Coates (Louisville, KY)
had two wins in the 110-90 dual meet victory over Illinois Institute of Technology:   the 1650 freestyle (15:51.46, NCAA "A" time) and the 400 individual medley (4:16.50).




Division III Women 
Chelsea Hoff, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
Hoff (Middleton, WI)
had three wins in the un-scored Northfield Colleges Quad Classic.  The senior won the 100 backstroke (58.38, NCAA "B" time), the 50 freestyle (24.11, NCAA "B" time) and the 100 freestyle (53.16, NCAA "B" time).

 
 
Division III Men  Bateman
Chris Bateman, St. Olaf College
Bateman (Naperville, IL)
had three wins in the un-scored Northfield Colleges Quad Classic.  The junior won the 100 breaststroke (59.94), the 200 backstroke (1:54.50, NCAA "B" time) and the 400 individual medley (4:04.92, NCAA "B" time).  The All-American also swam on the 200 medley relay (1:38.99).
