Westminster Tops Allegheny in Non-Conference Dual Meet

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both defeated visiting Allegheny on Saturday in a non-conference dual meet at the Westminster Natatorium. The Titan women won 160-133, while the Titan men came away with a 148-145 victory.

The Westminster women improve to 2-0 on the season for dual meets, while the Titan men win their only dual meet so far this season.

The Titan women won 10 events and the Titan men captured eight.

Senior Emily Dressler (Hummelstown, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian) took the 200- (2:00.32), 500- (5:24.01) and 1,000-yard (11:06.08) freestyle races to lead the Titan women. Sophomore Caitlin Lehberger (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) touched first in the 100 freestyle (54.84) and the 200 IM (2:13.17), while junior Courtney Herdt (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) won the 100 (1:08.48) and 200 (2:29.33) breaststrokes.

Westminster's women won the 200 medley relay (1:53.57) that consisted of Lehberger, Herdt and freshmen Carolyn Swarlis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) and Lyndsey Vogler (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk). Swarlis also won the 100 fly (1:03.37) and Vogler captured the 200 backstroke (2:18.35).

On the men's side, senior Brett Gerthoffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) won the 500 (5:03.36) and 1,000 (10:24.54) freestyles. Freshman Alan Nedley (White, Pa./Connellsville) won the 200 butterfly (2:04.99) and sophomore Kris Brooks (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) touched first in the 100 backstroke (57.04).

Brooks also helped Westminster win the 200 medley relay (1:40.85) and Gerthoffer and Nedley helped the Titans take the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.04).

Freshman Nathaniel Kronenwetter (Danville, Pa./Danville) won both of his diving events, including the 1 meter (179.90 points) and the 3 meter (181.80).

The Titans are back in action at Bethany on Saturday, Nov. 14.
