WKU Swimming and Diving Teams Take Down Xavier
Bowling Green, KY , November 7th, 2009
The WKU swimming and diving teams continued their impressive seasons by defeating Xavier on Saturday. The women's team defeated Xavier 165-104 while the men's team won by a score of 166-110.
"I was actually extremely pleased with our performances today," head coach Bruce Marchionda said. "We made a conscious effort to not back off our training for our dual meets. So, to get up and swim like they did today with as tired as they are is a very good sign as to what is to come at the end of the year. Today was highlighted by two pool records. Claire Alexandre broke the pool record by almost four seconds in the 500 Free and Claire Donahue broke the pool record in the 100 Fly. Both had very impressive times for this time of the year. We try to use the speed as a learning opportunity to learn a little bit about how we need to swim races and they were very good about doing some of the things that we talked about last week."
The women's team kicked off the meet by winning the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Laurel Chaney, Stephanie Martin, Claire Donahue and Meredith Dement posted a time of 1:46.19 to win the event. WKU also placed second and fourth in the relay.
