Bentley Splits With College of Saint Rose

ALBANY, NY , January 31st, 2009           
With junior Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS) and sophomore Jon Andrews (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug Reg. HS) leading the way, the Bentley University men’s swimming and diving team defeated the College of Saint Rose, 127-110, Saturday afternoon at the Saint Rose pool.

Connolly swam the opening leg on Bentley’s winning 200 yard medley relay, combining with junior Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and seniors James Cote (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip HS) and Nick Markert (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton HS) for a time of 1:42.15.

Later in the meet, Connolly captured the 50 yard backstroke in 54.04, Bentley’s only individual win in a swimming event.

Bentley earned all 32 possible events in the two diving events as Saint Rose didn’t have a competitor. Andrews bested two teammates in each, with scores of 171.00 and 255.05, both on the one-meter board.

Bentley, 7-4, will wrap up its dual schedule next Saturday at Norwich University.

BENTLEY 127, SAINT ROSE 110
Despite sweeping the diving events and receiving two victories from sophomores Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./Dedham HS), the Bentley University women’s swimming team dropped a 140-97 decision to the College of Saint Rose on the road Saturday afternoon.

Kaduboski was victorious in both the 200 yard freestyle (1:59.87) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.69), but saw her string of individual wins in dual competition halted at 46 when she finished second in the 500 free.

Kaduboski posted a time of 5:24.49 in the 500, finishing about six seconds back of Saint Rose freshman Caitlin Peterson.

Bentley swept the diving events with senior Marissa Cerami (Mahwah, N.J./Bergen County Academies) winning the first with a score of 148.80 and sophomore Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) the second (222.70). Both were off the one-meter board.

Saint Rose (5-4) received individual wins from six different athletes. Leading the way was Alicia Robinson, who touched first in the 50 free (26.08 seconds) and the 100 free (56.88) after anchoring the Golden Knights’ winning 200 medley relay team.

Bentley, which finished its dual schedule at 8-6, will be off until the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships Feb. 20-22 at UMass-Dartmouth.
