Pool Record Set as Westminster Men and Women Sweep Mount Union

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. , January 22nd, 2009           
The Westminster College men's and women's swimming teams picked up non-conference dual meet wins over visiting Mount Union on Saturday. The Titan men (5-1) defeated Mount Union, 106-87, while the Titan women (4-3) beat Mount Union, 106-88.

Freshman Caitlin Lehberger (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) set a new pool record in the 400-yard IM, as her first-place time of 4:42.19 is the fastest women's time in the history of the Westminster Natatorium.

Lehberger also swam on the winning 400 medley relay team that posted a time of 4:07.52. Other relay team members that also posted individual first-place times included junior Natalie Rambish (Erie, Pa./Fairview) in the 200 butterfly (2:26.24) and junior Emily Dressler (Hummelstown, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian) in the 200 freestyle (1:59.77). Dressler's exhibition time of 5:10.61 in the 500 free was also faster than the Mount Union first-place finisher.

Westminster women captured first place in three other events, including junior Emily Paul (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) in the 1000 free (11:39.68), freshman Katie Slavinski (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) in the 50 free (26.39) and freshman Brittany Reynolds (Fairlawn, Ohio/Copley) in the 100 free (57.08).

On the men's side, six different Titans won individual events.

Senior Conor Simpson (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) captured the 200 free (1:47.80) and sophomore Aaron Whisman (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Akron Firestone) won the 100 free (49.45). Simpson and Whisman also helped Westminster take the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:40.93.

Other Westminster men first-place times included senior Cody Robson (Bloomsburg, Pa./Poland Seminary (Ohio)) in the 200 butterfly (2:02.98), senior Zac Gebhardt (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) in the 1000 free (10:04.01), freshman Kris Brooks (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) in 50 free (22.67) and junior Ben Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) in the 400 IM (4:23.92).

Westminster returns to action Saturday, Jan. 24 at Carnegie Mellon.
