Texas Frosh Sweep National Nods

Multiple wins and NCAA "B" times earn Kathleen Hersey (Texas) and Jackson Wilcox (Texas) the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors.  Kate Aherne (Truman State), Aleksander Hetland (Tampa), Erin Altenburger (Williams), and Matt Stewart (Gustavus Adolphus) also received the award.  The six were selected based on their performances January 5-11.

Division I Women
Kathleen Hersey, University of TexasHersey
Hersey (Roswell, GA)
had four wins in the dual meets victory over Auburn(129-109) and loss to Georgia(141-159).  The freshman won the 400 individual medley (4:08.77, NCAA "B" time- Auburn) , 400 individual medley (4:13.76, NCAA "B" time-Georgia), the 200 butterfly (1:57.23, NCAA "B" time) and the 100 backstroke (54.24).  Hersey also swam to a second place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:57.28).  The Olympian also assisted on the winning 400 medley relay (3:39.72-Geogia) and second place 400 medley relay (3:42.06-Auburn).
 
Division  I  Men
Jackson Wilcox, University of TexasWilcox
Wilcox (Nashville, TN)
had three wins in the dual meets victories over Auburn(139-102) and Georgia(169-126).  The freshman won the 1000 freestyle (9:10.87), the 500 freestyle (4:25.64-Auburn),500 freestyle (4:24.37, NCAA "B" time-Georgia).  Wilcox also swam to a third place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:48.99-Auburn, 1:48.31-Georgia second place), a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:39.22) and third in the exhibition 400 individual medley (4:01.25).
                  
 
Division II Women                                                                                                                  
Kate Aherne, Truman State University Aherne
Aherne (Cary, IL)
had four wins in the two day(157-46  and 167-36) dual meet victories over Lewis University.  The junior won the 400 individual medley (4:31.61, NCAA "A" time), the 100 butterfly (59.26), the 200 freestyle (1:54.51, NCAA "B" time) and the 200 backstroke (2:10.44).  Aherne also assisted on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:39.05) and the second place 200 freestyle relay (1:40.13).

 
 
Division II Men 
Aleksander Hetland, University of Tampa Hetland
Hetland (Oslo, Norway)
had two wins in the 146-111 dual meet loss to Emory University.  The senior won the 100 breaststroke (56.47, NCAA "A" time), the 200 breaststroke (2:09.98) and swam exhibition in the 200 individual medley (1:56.97).  The All-American also assisted on the winning 200 medley relay (1:34.82). 

 


Division III Women

Erin Altenburger, Williams College
Altenburger (Mendham, NJ)
had two wins in the 194-104 dual meet victory over Amherst College.   The sophomore won the 100 backstroke (58.75, NCAA "B" time) and the 500 freestyle (5:05.30, NCAA "B" time).  Altenburger also assisted on two winning relays, the 200 medley relay (1:47.61) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.50, NCAA "B" time).


 
Division III Men                                                                                         

Matt Stewart, Gustavus Adolphus CollegeStewart
Stewart (Burnsville, MN)
had three wins to help his team win the three team St. John's Invitational.  The senior won the 200 freestyle (1:44.03), the 200 butterfly (1:57.79) and the 500 freestyle (4:48.05).   Stewart assisted on the winning 800 freestyle relay (7:13.71) and the 200 medley relay (1:38.12).
