Westminster Coach Appointed to NCAA Committee

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. , February 25th, 2009
Westminster College men's and women's swimming head coach Rob Klamut was selected to join the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Committee. Klamut will serve a three-and-a-half year term as a committee member.

The committee will be responsible for implementing championship policy for the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, which includes selecting sites and determining qualifying standards. The committee also votes on rule changes within the sport.

The committee is currently in the spotlight as efforts to expand the participant cap intensify.  To date four conference commissioners have become involved in the effort.  Supporters hope that by temporarily expanding the cap, they can alleviate inequities in the qualifying process which stem from teams' ability to layer multiple suits (prohibited after December 19th) and manufacturers and vendors' inability to supply teams with technical suits in time for their conference championships.

Klamut is completing his 24th season as head coach at Westminster, including 331 combined dual meet wins for men's and women's, a combined 12 team conference championships, and a combined 18 conference coach of the year honors. Klamut has coached three national champion swimmers, 95 individuals earning All-America honors in 271 events, over 100 conference champions and several scholar-athlete and all-academic team members.
