Salisbury Sweeps Goucher, Swept by York

YORK, Pa. , December 4th, 2009
The Salisbury University men's and women's swim teams hit the road on Friday to participate in their second tri-meet of the season, squaring off against Goucher College as well as Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) College. The men and women both split the meet, defeating Goucher but falling to York.

The women had a solid day in the pool, ending the day with four top finishes; first-place points in the 200-yard medley gave Salisbury's women the push they needed to defeat Goucher 148-56. Senior Jessica Krauss (Clarksville, Md.) and freshman Sarah Ault (Ellicott City, Md.) also took first in their individual events. Krauss outswam York swimmer Alex Minsky in the 100-yard breaststroke by almost three full seconds, touching the wall with a time of 1:11.77. Ault took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.35; junior Katy Turner (Salisbury, Md.) finished a close second with a time of 1:03.47. Sophomore Katie Fitzenreiter (Columbia, Md.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:27.10, a full fourteen seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

On the men's side, a slew of top-six finishes contributed to the Sea Gulls' 125-77 takedown of Goucher. Junior Joe Wisda (Rockville, Md.) and freshman Paul Zoli (Fallston, Md.) both had impressive days as they finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle. Wisda posted a time of 50.61 seconds, while Zoli touched the wall at 51.55 seconds.

The maroon and gold's next meet, and only remaining home meet of the season, will be against CAC opponent Hood College on Jan. 9, 2010 at 2 p.m. After that, the Sea Gulls will compete in two meets before they set their sights on the CAC Championships, scheduled for Feb. 12-14, 2010.
