Savannah College of Art and Design Sweep Florida Southern, Saint Leo

The Savannah College of Art and Design men’s and women’s swimming teams swept a double dual against Florida Southern College and Saint Leo University Saturday (Oct. 25) morning at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Bees defeated Florida Southern 64-31 and Saint Leo 65-30 in the men’s meet while SCAD won 82-13 over Florida Southern and 74-21 over Saint Leo in the women’s competition.
SCAD improved to 3-2 in women’s action while the Bees evened their men’s mark to 2-2. Both SCAD teams return to action Nov. 8 with a 1 p.m. meet against Emory University in Atlanta.
The Bees won 16 of the 22 events competed. SCAD, which won all four relay events, was led by Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky’s three individual wins. The sophomore picked up victories in the men’s 50-yard freestyle (21.34), 100 butterfly (50.45) and 100 backstroke (53.80) events. Stephanie McNicol and Savanah Watts each recorded two wins on the women’s side. McNicol won the 500 (5:12.62) and 1,650 freestyle (17:54.25) races while Watts was tops in the 100 (55.91) and 200 freestyle (1:58.41).
Cassie Dixon (50 freestyle, 24.63), Carly Keith (100 butterfly, 1:00.59) and Mary Ashley Krough (100 backstroke, 1:01.90) also registered wins in the women’s competition while Danny Recordon (100 freestyle, 49.56) and Michael Lawrence (100 breaststroke, 1:00.55) also tallied wins in men’s action.
