A record breaking first college meet for Texas’ Kathleen Hersey and two NCAA ‘B’ times by Michigan’s Clary earned them the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors. Jing Hua (Drury University), Yi Wen Huang (Drury University), Sarah Crockett (University of Mary Washington) and Paul Crook (Washington and Lee University) also earned the weekly honor. The six were selected based on their performances October 13-19 by a panel of collegiate coaches. Division I Women
Kathleen Hersey, University of Texas
Kathleen Hersey (Roswell, GA) broke a 22-year-old school record and won three individual events in Texas’ 175-123 victory at No.5 California. Hersey won the 200 butterfly with a school record and a NCAA ‘A’ time (1:54.83), 100 butterfly (53.27), good for the eighth-fastest swim in Texas history. She posted the third-fastest swim in that event in school history with her win in the 400 IM (4:12.27). The freshman also swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:43.39).
Division I Men
Tyler Clary, University of Michigan
Tyler Clary (Riverside, CA) aided the fifth ranked university of Michigan to a 182-115 victory over the fourth ranked University of Florida. Clary had three wins 200 freestyle (1:38.53), 200 backstroke (1:44.21), 400 individual medley (3:51.66). The sophomore achieved a NCAA ‘B’ times in both the 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley and assisted on the 2nd place 400 medley relay.
Division II Women
Jing Hua, Drury University
Jing Hua (Shanghai, China) Achieved an NCAA ‘B’ time in her 50 Freestyle win (24.07). She also achieved an NCAA ‘A’ time in her 2 nd place finish in the 100 Backstroke (57.45). The junior also assisted the 2 nd place 400 freestyle relay (3:33.03) and 200 freestyle relay (1:36.20) NCAA ‘A’ cut. The Drury women finished second The Drury men finished second at the Show-Me Showdown.
Division II Men
Yi Wen Huang, Drury University
Yi Wen Huang (Shanghai, China) had three wins 50 Freestyle (20.95) achieving a NCAA ‘B’ cut, 50 butterfly (22.60), and 100 butterfly (48.97) achieving his NCAA-A cut. The senior was also on the 2nd place 400 medley relay (3:30.27) and 4 th place 200 freestyle relay (1:26.81). The Drury men finished second at the Show-Me Showdown. October 15
Division III Women
Sarah Crockett, University of Mary Washington
Sara Crockett (Toano, VA) had three wins 200 Freestyle (1:58.23), 100 freestyle (55.10), and 500 freestyle (5:18.72). The sophomore also assisted on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:45.99). Crocket played a large role in the Eagles victory over Washington & Lee 152 – 110.
Division III Men
Paul Crook, Washington and Lee University
Paul Crook (Nashville, TN) helped his team defeat University of Mary Washington 170-92. Crook had two wins 200 freestyle (1:44.15) and established a meet record with his win in the 500 freestyle (4:47.99). The senior All-American also played a role in 2 winning relays; 200 medley relay (1:38.53) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:18.67).
