Endowment Established at Oberlin

Oberlin, OH , October 15th, 2008
Dozens of former Oberlin swimmers, led by David Shipley ’72, have created a fund to support the men’s and women’s varsity swim teams. Named The Dick Michaels Varsity Swimming Support Fund, it honors the dedicated coaching career of longtime Head Coach Dick Michaels, who led Oberlin’s swimming program from 1970 to 2006.

“I know it will enrich the experience for our swimmers and divers, and I am honored to know that this fund was initiated in my name,” says Michaels.

The fund, now endowed and yielding an annual payout, will be used to support swim team activities and programs, such as the annual training trip and the purchase of new equipment.

“We will use the money to support the success of every swimmer and diver, mullet or NCAA champion, as Dick Michaels would have done,” adds Mark Fino, current swimming and diving head coach.
