A&M's Marshall, Indy's Stierm Lead National Swimmer Honors

Multiple NCAA qualifying times for Christine Marshall and Manuel Stiem earned the two the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors. Ricky Berens (University of Texas), Katherine Ahearne (Truman State University), Alisa Vereshchagin (Kenyon College ), and Doug Huguenard (Kenyon College) also received the award. The six were selected based on their performances October 27-November 2 by a panel of collegiate coaches.

Division I Women
Christine Marshall, Texas A&M
Marshall (Newport News, VA) had two wins in the 153-88 dual meet victory over Penn State. The Senior won the 200 Freestyle (1:47.59, NCAA “B” time), and the 500 Freestyle (4:47.81, NCAA “B” time). The Olympian was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:21.50).

Division I Men
Ricky Berens, the University of Texas
Berens (Charlotte, NC) had three wins this weekend. The junior won the 200 individual medley (1:46.85, NCAA “B” time), the 100 butterfly (47.69 NCAA “B” time), and the 200 butterfly (1:46.31, NCAA “B” time). He also swam on three winning relays; the 400 medley relay (3:15.33), the 800 freestyle relay (6:28.89, NCAA “B” time), and the 400 freestyle relay (2:57.45, NCAA “B” time). Texas defeated Michigan 221.5-166.5 and Indiana 209-153.

Division II Women
Katherine Ahearne, Truman State University
Ahearne (Cary, IL) had two wins at the Indianapolis Quad meet. She won the 200 freestyle (1:53.43, NCAA “B” time) and the 100 freestyle (52.29, NCAA “B” time). The junior was also on the winning 400 medley relay (3:58.40). TSU defeated Wayne state 144-84, Ashland College 160-45 and Indianapolis 141-82. A day later, Ahearne won the 200 individual medley (2:07.31, NCAA “A” time) and the 100 Backstroke (59.50, NCAA “B” time) as the Bulldogs again topped Ashland 155-50 and Indianapolis 146-777. TSU lost to Wayne State 113-110.

Division II Men
Manuel Stiem, University of Indianapolis
Stiem (Frankfort, Germany) had one win at the University of Indianapolis quad meet. The junior won the 400 individual medley (4:01.17, NCAA "A” time), finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.11, NCAA “B" time) and assisted on the winning 400 medley relay (3:30.66). Indianapolis lost to Ashland University 118 - 103 and Wayne State University 128 - 103. The Greyhounds defeated Truman State University 110 - 95. A day later Stiem had won the 200 individual medley (1:52.95 NCAA “A" time), and 100 breaststroke (58.01 "B” time). The junior was also on the winning 200 medley relay (1:35.71) and 400 medley relay.

Division III Women
Alisa Vereshchagin, Kenyon College
Vereshchagin (Solon, OH) had one win in the 132-73 dual meet loss to Ohio State. The Freshman won the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.98 NCAA “B” time) and finished second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:22.26 NCAA “B” time).

Division III Men
Doug Huguenard, Kenyon College
Huguenard (Louisville, KY) had two third place finishes in the 168-71 dual meet loss to Ohio State. The junior swam the 200 Butterfly (1:53.62, NCAA “B” time) and 100 Butterfly (51.80).
