Mount St. Mary's Finishes Fourth At Youngstown State Invitational

Maggie O’Connell (Hagerstown, Md.) finished fifth in the 200 fly to lead the Mount St. Mary’s women’s swimming team to a fourth-place standing at the Youngstown State Invitational on Sunday.

O’Connell finished fifth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.46. The junior was one of five Mount swimmers to record a Top-10 finish on the final day of the three-day invitational.

Jeanne Marie Benedetti (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) placed seventh in the 1650 free (18:34.65). Heather Kurtzman (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) and Mary Beth Kasda (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) finished eighth (2:41.14) and ninth (2:39.98), respectively, in the 200 breast while Eileen Coyne (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) was ninth in the 200 back (2:19.70). Kurtzman also finished 11th in the 200 back (2:21.74) and Kasda placed 13th in the 1650 free (19:49.47).

Along with Benedetti and Kasda in the 1650 free, Courtney Gaddi (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) finished 11th (19:23.06), Eileen McHenry (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) placed 14th (20:16.86) and Chelsea Marrocco (Matawan, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) was 15th (20:43.92) in the event.

In the 100 free, Kelsey Albright (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) was the top finisher in 11th place (55.83), Paige Chenet (Berywn, Pa./Conestoga) placed 14th (55.59) and Gaddi was 15th (56.73).

Albright, Benedetti, Chenet and Gaddi closed out the invitational with a fourth-place standing in the 400-free relay (3:48.27).

Youngstown State won its own event with a score of 873.5 while Saint Francis (Pa.) (763.5), California (Pa.) (629) and the Mountaineers (377) rounded out the four competing teams.

Mount St. Mary’s returns to action on Dec. 6 at Saint Francis (Pa.). Meet starts at 2 p.m.
