Lehberger Siblings Account For Six Wins as Titans Split at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio , November 22nd, 2008

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming teams split a non-conference dual meet at Wooster Saturday. The Titan men won 152-132 and the Titan women lost 139-123.

Westminster's men's team is now 3-1 on the season and the women's team is now 2-3. Wooster's men are 2-4 and its women's team is 5-1.

Both the Titan men and women won eight events apiece.

There were three Westminster swimmers who posted three wins apiece. They include senior Chris Lehberger (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) on the men's side and his sister, freshman Caitlin Lehberger (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington), and junior Emily Dressler (Hummelstown, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian) on the women's side.

Chris Lehberger won the 100- (1:00.98) and 200-yard (2:13.33) breaststrokes and the 200 IM (2:02.03). Caitlin Lehberger captured the 50 freestyle (25.08), the 200 IM (2:12.61) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.68). Dressler touched first in the 1,000 (10:57.74), 500 (5:18.00) and 200 (1:58.71) freestyles.

Senior Zac Gebhardt (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won the 500 (4:56.58) and the 1,000 (10:13.05) freestyles for the Titan men. Senior Stephen Burns (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) and junior Brett Gerthoffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) won the 50 (22.29) and 200 (1:48.04) freestyles, respectively, while also swimming legs of the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:15.48).

The other Westminster winners were both on the women's side in senior Megan Mier (Copley, Ohio/Revere) winning the 200 backstroke (2:15.84) and sophomore Courtney Herdt (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) capturing the 100 breaststroke (1:10.72).

Westminster will return to Wooster Dec. 4-6 for the three-day Wooster Invitational.
