Sophomore Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) won three individual events as visiting Washington College improved to 5-1 on the season with a 111.5-92.5 non-conference women's swimming victory over host St. Mary's College of Maryland this afternoon.
Visiting Washington College took first place in 10 of the 11 events to post a 126-77 non-conference men's swimming victory over host St. Mary's. The Shoremen (2-1) got two individual first-place finishes each from freshman Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven), junior Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and senior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson).
Glasser won the 1000 freestyle in 11:12.82, the 200 freestyle in 2:02.41, and the 500 freestyle in 5:23.51. Freshman Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) added first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.15) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.79) and added a second-place finish in the 100
freestyle (56.25), while freshman Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albermarle) won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.24 and junior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) tied for first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.60.
Washington also won the 200 freestyle relay as Gerhart, freshman Laura Risell (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley), Phillips, and freshman Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central) posted a time of 1:44.07.
Freshman Kelly Dunbar (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) finished second in both the 400 individual medley (4:56.10) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.15), while senior Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) was second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.47) and Stroman was second in the 500 freestyle (5:30.41).
Longworth won the 200 freestyle (1:51.95) and 100 backstroke (57.81), while Soper won the 50 freestyle (22.97) and 100 freestyle (50.03), and Wentzel finished first in the 1000 freestyle (10:53.71) and 500 freestyle (5:10.52).
Sophomore Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won the 400 individual medley in 4:31.39 and also finished second in the 100 backstroke (58.22). Junior Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) won the 100 butterfly in 54.88, while freshman Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.81 to become the Shoremen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in the event.
Longworth, freshman Johnny Helenek (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg), Pollock, and Auger won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.89. Helenk added a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.53.
Washington returns to action Friday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Franklin & Marshall.
