Ohio Northern-Olivet-Hillsdale Tri-Meet

Wooster, OH , November 15th, 2008           

Ohio Northern men’s swimming and diving traveled to Hillsdale (Mich.) and were downed by Olivet (Mich.) 130-109 Saturday afternoon at the John McAvoy Natatorium.

The Polar Bears dropped to 3-2 overall this season, while the Comets improved to 2-2 overall.

Northern was lead by Kuhn, who captured a first and a second place finish.  He won the 100 freestyle in 49.02 and came in second in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.40.

George Chesney won the 3-meter diving scoring 271.55 points.

Jeb Deal touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.57.

Michael Schultz, Ryan Bender, Jacob Andreasen, and Anders Samuelson pulled together to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:21.21.

Schultz finished second twice in indiviual events.  He finished second in the 500 freestyle in 4:51.56 and the 1000 freestyle in 10:07.10.

Samuelson came in second in the 500 freestyle in 22.55.

Casey Davis placed second in the 400 individual medley in 4:34.51.

The Polar Bears will host Wittenburg next Friday in a non-conference meet starting at 6:30 pm.

 

The Ohio Northern women’s swimming team competed in a non-conference tri-meet against Hillsdale (Mich.) and Olivet (Mich.) at the McAvoy Natatorium in Hillsdale on Saturday afternoon.

Ohio Northern fell to Hillsdale 164-70, and to Olivet 123-117. Hillsdale also topped Olivet, 152-86.

The Polar Bears fall to 2-4 overall while Hillsdale improves to 6-1 with their victories. Olivet is now 1-4.

Freshman Michelle Eggers led the way once again for the Polar Bears, with two individual second place finishes.

Eggers finished the 1000 free in 11:12.26, good for second in the event. Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Early was right behind her teammate, touching third in 11:25.28

Eggers added another second place finish in the 500 free, with a time of 5:25.23.

Also with a second place finish for the Lady Bears was sophomore Hannah Bukowy, who completed the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.67, just .58 seconds behind the winner.

Bukowy was also a part of the Bears’ second place relay team in the 200 medley. She combined with junior Jillian Huber, junior Katherine Moore, and freshman Alison Garbash to finish in 1:56.00.

Moore also finished third in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.44.  

Junior Lacey Shumate added another top three finish for Ohio Northern, finishing third in the 400 IM in 5:04.60.

The Polar Bears return to action on Friday, hosting Wittenberg in a non-conference dual meet at 6:30 pm.
