Bears Sweeps Drew, move to 3-0

The fast start for the Ursinus College swim teams continued on Wednesday night as the Bears swept a meet from Drew University.

The men’s team (3-0) won 94-67, with the women (3-0) holding off the Rangers 110-89.

The women’s team opened up the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:59.98. The team of junior Melissa Krupa (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan), sophomore Bridget Winn (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville), freshman Kathryn Pall (Havertown, PA/Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) and senior Catherine Palchak (State College, PA/State College) took first.

In the 400 IM, freshman Sophie Kenuk (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won the event with a time of 5:06.91.

The winning continued in the 200 freestyle as junior Lyndsay MacFeeters (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) took the top spot with a time of 2:10.46, followed by freshman Danielle Yentz (Springfield, PA/Springfield) in the 200 butterfly at 2:27.60.

MacFeeters took her second top on the night with a first place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.04.

The women’s team pulled away in the final two events as Kathryn Kelly won the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.45 and the team of Krupa, Kenuk, Yentz and senior Mollie Cherson (Morrisvile, PA/Pennsbury) won the 200 free relay at 1:50.43.

The men’s team started off the night with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.04. The team of senior Ryan Kennedy (Norristown, PA/Norristown), senior Andrew Piasecki (Pottstown, PA/Spring-Ford), freshman Christopher Doyle (Holliston, MA/Holliston) and freshman Kevin Tallon (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) took the event with a time of 1:49.04.

Piasecki followed that up with a win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.97, with sophomore Lloyd Tannenbaum (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) winning the 200 freestyle at 1:52.45.

Kennedy captured his first individual win of the night in the 50 free, winning with a time of 24.34. Doyle then won the 200 breaststroke at a time of 2:35.63.

Freshman Chris Smith (Wayne, PA/St. Joseph’s Prep) took the 100 freestyle (51.69) to continue the first-place finishes, with Piasecki winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.38.

The last top finisher of the night was Tannenbaum, as he won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.91. After that, the Bears swam exhibition the rest of the way.

Ursinus will open Centennial Conference play on Saturday, hosting McDaniel.
