.: Ranking the Classes: #8 - North Carolina

May 28th, 2008

With guys like Joe Kinderwater and Chip Peterson it’d be easy to consider UNC a distance-based program.  This class will do a lot to a lot to dispel that myth and escalate the stakes in the ACC men’s race.

"We are excited to announce a fantastic group of future University of North Carolina swimmers and divers,” explains Rich DeSelm.  “The men joining us will be an impact class for our program at the ACC and potentially the NCAA level.”

The class was made with the late signing of Steve Cebertowicz.  Texas also made a play, but ultimately didn’t have funds to land the nation’s #32 (that’s OK, Texas did alright).  Bert is actually ranked a dozen spots behind future sprint team Evan Reed.  You’ll look long and hard for a better 1-2 sprint pair than those two.  Also taking a hand in those relays will be #35 Will Singley.  Singley’s got greater range however and will join the likes of Victor LeClere, Sean Lane and Jesse Mendes in a deep freestyle talent pool.

A rival coach's perspective:  "This is the type of class we'd expected Rich [DeSelm] to get.  They're tough  hungry kids.  There will be a little personality shift in this team.  They're hungrier than in the past."
