Ranking the Classes: #4-Stanford

May 20th, 2008
#4 Stanford

With this class, Stanford's transition into Lea Mauer team is complete.  This isn't a big class, but hoo-baby look who they got - two of the nation's top five and three of the nation's top fifteen.  When you put this class together with Mauer's past two you have a team as well-balanced as any in the country.

Jessica Rodriguez (#3)  isn't just the latest great swimmer to come out of Longhorn Aquatics and Westlake High, she's a swimmer who will be representing America for years to come.  Her best times are LC meters, but when you bring them back to yards you can put her at #1 or #2 in five different events.  When it comes to sprinters, you want sooner instead of later and one of the nation's best, Samantha Woodward, hails from the Sooner state.  Woodward is the best sprint talent since Lacey Boutwell arrived on the farm and she's going to be backed by Betsy Webb.  Angela Duckorth shores up Stanford's depth in distance and completes a group that should benefit from the growth and experience of the two previous classes.

A rival coach’s perspective: “Small but very talented class. Lea got some great racers with really good international experience!”
