Indian River Men Obliterate 400 Medley Relay

Fort Pierce, FL , March 5th, 2008
Indian River appears well on its way to another pair of NJCAA Championships.  With 33 consecutive wins, IRCC currently holds title to the longest unbroken U.S. championship winning streak in any sport at the collegiate level.

The Pioneers swept all four of the night's relays.  Katie McRoberts, Kalia Martin, Yesica Rojas and Shanda Casella teamed up to put over a full length on the field in the 400 Medley Relay.  On the men's side, IRCC dismantled its record, taking over five seconds off its previous record.  Zack Stockman was the new guy on the relay.  He led off with a 52.32 before giving way to three-quarters of the previous record.  Emmett Walling (53.91), Gordon Touw Ngie Tjouw (46.38), and Gideon Louw (41.99) posted splits that would be the envy of any Division I program.  Lincoln College finished second in 3:31.49.

In the preliminary diving rounds Kayla Purkiser and Michael Wright led 1-2-3 qualifying scores on the 1- and 3- meter boards respectively.

In the 800 free relay, McRoberts picked up her second win of the evening.  She teamed with Mary O'Sullivan, Kalia Martin and Cara Potter to put over a minute on the field.  The IRCC men continued their record-setting ways.  Roberto Gomez, Daniel Munoz, Raul Martinez, and Gideon Louw combined for a meet record 6:34.24.  Lincoln College finished second in both relays.
